Building a social media following is becoming harder and harder each and every day.
Today, I am going to talk about a specific way to build your social media following.
WARNING: This is slow growth people, this is not a race!
When I first began my Etsy shop in 2015, I had no idea about how to run anything. My shop opened in March and my first sale was in July. Overnight success I was not!
After some time in, I started joining groups, reading a ton of books, and watching YouTube videos, I learned what I needed to do and what not to do.Tweet
Enter Instagram. 2016 I made my first IG account. Granted, I did what everyone else did and tried the fast way to the top and purchased followers. Fiverr offered an “Instagram service”, in which I thought was just someone who knew how to grow your account. And they did. I successfully grew my account to over 5,000 uninterested followers!
Now, there is no way around it. I shut down that account and started from zero. As of this writing I have 30 followers on my new IG account (feel free follow me here). So let’s move on to what does work.
Ever watch YouTube videos on how to grow your brand, engagement, or following? Yeah, me too. Tons actually. Until recently I found that those videos all have one thing in common…. a large following on YouTube!
Enter the Content Cycle:
So let’s explain the cycle:
YouTube account: Grow it to 10k-15k followers. Make relevant content and then post a generic topic video that directs those followers to your IG account.
IG account: Make a post or better yet a IGTV video explaining the generic topic on your YT video. More than likely out of those 10k-15k followers that followed you to Instagram will now follow you on IG. But don’t stop there
Create a blog post or podcast around the same topic but a little more in depth. This is considered “Lead Magnet” without the freebie download.
Let’s say you have gained 1,000 more followers on IG from that YouTube video. Guess what? NOW you can make a video explaining “how I gained over 1,000 followers in one month” video.
In this video you will not explain the generic topic that led your followers to your IG account but instead focus on teaching about content creation as a whole.
I like to call this a “Content Cycle”. The content cycle allows followers to go to the different platforms you are on seeking more information on the topic at hand or to get to know you better.Tweet
If you are not comfortable with being in front of the camera, create slideshows with VoiceOver speech.
You want potential followers to want to follow you for the long haul, so make sure you define your message and brand before creating the content cycle.
This may seem like too much work, but it really isn’t once you know your audience and their needs.
